Ramos Auto Registration Services manages the DMV side of contractor and small-business fleets from 332 E Norris Rd, Ste 3, in Bakersfield: every truck, pickup and trailer registered on time, weight fees and permanent trailer identification kept current, USDOT, CA number and Motor Carrier Permit filed and renewed, and commercial auto insurance written at the same counter by Jose's Insurance Agency. One call covers the fleet. (661) 525-3050.

What to bring

  • A list of your vehicles and trailers: year, make, VIN, plate, GVWR, and where each is based
  • Business details: legal name, address, EIN, and whether you haul for hire or only your own equipment
  • Current registration cards or renewal notices for anything due
  • Your commercial auto policy or declarations page, and workers' compensation certificate or exemption

What it costs

This one depends on the vehicle and the paperwork, so we quote the service fee before anything is processed. Call and describe your situation.

All service fees are in addition to the DMV’s own fees, which are the same everywhere and are passed through at cost.

Posted prices are cash prices. Paying by credit card adds a 3.79% convenience fee on the total.

All sales are final. There are no refunds on service fees once processing has begun; DMV and state fees, penalties and third-party charges are non-refundable.

What does fleet management mean at a registration office?

It means nobody on your crew spends a morning at the DMV. We hold the vehicle list for your business and handle every DMV and permit transaction the fleet generates: registration renewals as they come due, weight fees on the work trucks, permanent trailer identification (PTI) on the trailers, replacement plates and stickers when something goes missing on a job site, title transfers when you buy or sell a unit, and planned non-operation on equipment that's parked for the season. Renewals print here, so a truck is never off the road waiting on the mail.

  • Registration renewals for every unit, stickers printed on the spot
  • Weight fees and commercial registration on trucks over the limit
  • Permanent trailer identification (PTI) on trailers, and fleet additions
  • Title transfers when you buy, sell or trade equipment
  • Replacement plates, stickers and registration cards
  • PNO filings for seasonal or idle equipment, and reinstatement when it goes back to work

Which permits does a contractor's fleet need?

Most contractors running trucks over 10,001 pounds GVWR, or truck-and-trailer combinations that cross that line, need a CA number from the CHP and a California Motor Carrier Permit from the DMV, and many also need a USDOT number. We file the set for $250, keep the insurance certificate and workers' comp filing current so the permit doesn't suspend, and track the renewals. Describe the trucks and what they haul and we'll tell you exactly what applies; plenty of landscape, concrete and hauling outfits are surprised to learn they qualify.

Can you insure the fleet too?

Yes. Jose's Insurance Agency shares this office and writes commercial auto liability, physical damage and hired/non-owned coverage for contractors, and files the proof of insurance the DMV requires for a Motor Carrier Permit. Having the registration and the insurance under one roof means the names, addresses and VINs match on every document, which is what keeps a CHP roadside inspection short.

How does a fleet account work?

Bring the vehicle list once. From then on, call or text when a notice arrives or a unit changes hands, or drop the paperwork at the counter and pick up the stickers. Service fees are per transaction at the posted rates, so a fleet pays the same $40 per renewal as anyone else, with the USDOT, CA number and MCP set at $250. There's no monthly charge for us holding your file.

Do my trucks need a Motor Carrier Permit?

If you operate a commercial vehicle over the state's weight threshold, or haul property for hire, usually yes, along with a CA number and often a USDOT number. Call (661) 525-3050 with the GVWR of your trucks and trailers and what you haul, and we'll confirm.
