What does a notary cost in California?
Fifteen dollars per signature, by law. California Government Code section 8211 caps the fee for taking an acknowledgment or administering an oath at $15 for each signature, and that's what we charge. A customer who called last minute wrote that she got right in at $15 per signature, local and quick. There's no appointment fee and no walk-in surcharge.
What documents can you notarize?
Anything that requires a California acknowledgment or jurat, as long as the signer is present with valid ID and understands what they're signing. Because this office is also a DMV business partner, vehicle documents are our specialty and can be processed in the same visit.
- DMV forms that require notarization, including section 5 of the REG 227 replacement title application
- Vehicle bills of sale, gift letters and powers of attorney for a vehicle transaction
- General powers of attorney, affidavits and statements of facts
- Parental consent and travel letters, rental and lease agreements, and other personal documents
What should I know before I come in?
Don't sign the document ahead of time; the notary has to watch you sign or hear you acknowledge the signature. Bring the whole document, not just the signature page. Every signer needs their own current photo ID. And a notary verifies identity and witnesses signatures; we can't tell you what to put in a document or whether you should sign it. If your document needs a specific certificate wording, bring that too.

What ID does a California notary accept?
A current (or issued within the last five years) government photo ID such as a California driver's license or ID card, a U.S. passport, a foreign passport, a military ID, or another state's driver's license. The name on the ID should match the name being signed.
Can you notarize a DMV title or REG 227?
Yes. The lienholder release in section 5 of the REG 227 must be notarized, and we do that at the counter as part of the duplicate title or transfer transaction. Other DMV forms and vehicle bills of sale are notarized the same way.
