My registration sticker is missing or peeled off. What do I do?

Replace it before you get a ticket for it. The DMV's replacement sticker fee is $28, and because we're a DMV business partner the new sticker and a fresh registration card print here while you wait. If the sticker was stolen off the plate, which happens in parking lots across Bakersfield, consider reporting it so the old sticker number is flagged.

What if my license plates were lost or stolen?

Stolen plates should be reported to police first, because anything done with those plates can come back to you until the record shows they're gone. Then come in: we complete the replacement application and the DMV issues a new plate number for the vehicle. If only one plate is missing and you still have the other, bring it with you; the DMV generally issues a new pair.

  • One or both plates lost or stolen: application for replacement plates, new number issued
  • Plates damaged or unreadable: the old plates are surrendered and replaced
  • Personalized plates lost or stolen: the same configuration can usually be reissued

Can I get a copy of my registration card?

Yes, same day. A replacement registration card is one of the quickest transactions we do, and you should keep one in the vehicle; being unable to show registration at a traffic stop is a correctable violation, but it's still a stop and a court date. We can also update the address on the registration at the same time if you've moved.
